I love perrenial flowers because they come back every year. So even though they are a little more pricey to start, they do work out cheaper over time.

My current favorites are Hostas, Irises and Bleeding Heart.

I like tulips...planted 90 of them last fall and was surprised when they all came up this spring!!!  I am NOT a gardener at all!  Here's proof: is a peony a perrenial?  Because I recieved a peony plant when ds2 was born and it blooms every year around his bday. I love that.  It's a big beautiful bush, too.  Wait...does that mean it's not a "flower"?  Oh gosh, I'm showing my not-so-green thumb!

Mtgirl, yes a Peony is a perrenial. I have 2 in my garden and they are beautiful. And i have about 200 tulips in my garden. Embarrassed I love spring. And i love when the tulips are all in bloom everything looks so beautiful after such a crappy long and cold winter

Love tulips too but the chipmunks also love them. Angry  We have an influx of those little beasts this year and they are digging holes everywhere in my gardens!!!!  Ok - chipmunk vent over... lol.

I also love columbines as there are so many varieties and they are soooo different looking.  Just added white Iris' last year and they are also beautiful!  I really liked all of the others already mentioned. :)

Im not sure if this actually works but.. i was told once that if you plant Fritillaria that they will help to keep the squirrels away from your bulbs.

They are bulbs too. This is what they look like.

OH!! They ar kinda neat looking too!  Thansk!  I actually plant the bulbs with lotsa of bloodmeal (We're a veggie family so it was a bit backward to go that route.....but I was DESPERATE for something to work!! lol).  This really does seem to help as the critters don't get the bulbs.....BUT once the plants are growing in the Spring, they start on the plants!  Would this Fritallaria keep them from eating the plants, I wonder???  The rabbits are another story. sigh.

My biggest thing w/ the 'munks right now are that they go into the gardens and just dig holes randomly.  It's like  little "Chip" or "Dale" goes in and says...here's a great place to dig!! Then, changes his mind halfway and starts about a foot away!!  I planted Dahlia tubers and Burberry bushes in these new border gardens by the stairs of our deck and they've dug holes around them!! ARGH!

I LOVE Columbine's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   They come in EVERY color, some in multi-colors, have really cool leaves and seed like crazy so you know you will always be able to share.  The only thing that sucks is that they take like 3 yrs to finally bloom but the wait is SO worth it Hearts
