I had accepted that we were having baby boy #3, named him and started making new items for him and got his nursery mostly done.

Then I had my appointment on wednesday.

Some back story:

my 20w u/s - doctor thought it might be a boy, but what he showed us didn't look very convincing. Then we had a 24w follow up u/s, and we double checked, he took a look between the legs and we saw a ^ shaped thing between the legs, I was fairly convinced, but it didn't look anything like the boy bits we had seen with out other boys. But we decided it was a boy and let go of our hopes to have a daughter.

FF to wednesday this week, I had a follow up u/s at 28 weeks, and he asked me if we knew what it was, and I told him he thought it was a boy last time, and then he showed us between the legs and I couldn't see anything, no boy bits, no girl bits. When I told him it had better be a boy because we had already decorated he said well I wouldn't have decorated yet and then said hopefully a girl will like frogs.

DH said that the impression he got was that this doctor is always this vague - probably due to the age of the u/s machine, it is probably 15 years old or more. The pictures are horribly fuzzy. He gave us one picture and honestly I couldn't tell you what it is of, he says it is the baby's face. It looks nothing like a face.

So now here I sit, with my hopes up that I may get my girl after all, but kind of irritated because I was looking forward to my baby boy.

That would be so hard, I'm so sorry your going through this now after accepting that the baby is a boy. I do know that if the baby is peeing in utero, the penis can be pointed up and therefore unseeable in a potty shot. I'm in no way saying whether your baby is a boy or girl because there is no way I could know that. Are you getting another ultrasound? I just wanted to share that my DS3 in an amazing addition to my life and I am truly blessed to have him. However, if you are surprised by a baby girl then yay for you!!! And yes, I think a girl would like frogs :)

That is horribly fuzzy and I can't make anything out. I'm not sure I could believe anything either way if your potty shots were that fuzzy and vague. Is there any was you can get a private scan? I would hate being so unsure after I had my mind set.

awww poor thing..it seems to me he is very forgetfull...along with an old machine...maybe time for a diff dr lol....i would take it as a boy so that way if he still pops out a boy...you knew, you have already accepted it, and you were already in love..if it pops out a girl well Sweet its a surprise and youd be just as happy..That is what I am going to do if dr tells me at my 28 that it is a girl..as my last us at 16wk tech said both but more likely boy....ive been coping ever since but i already know if they tell me girl i wont believe it anyways til she is here lol.....especially since my last one the fam was told girl...we didnt want to know so it was a surprise for us..i only knew was a girl cuz everything we had in the box for the baby when it was born was all pink and purple...so i think with the machine..and baby prob not cooperating...lack of boy parts this time does not mean girl...its what they say from what i have heard when they cannot find the parts at that moment...I know it is hard as i know my heart would be getting its hopes up as well but i would just keep everything as is...or go nueteral.. im going nueteral just incase..unless i see such an obvious boy part lol....and not a hand or cord.....lol..good luck..am sorry your heart feels torn now but thats is a good sing...that means you already love this little boy if it is indeed a boy and everything will be ok...it stings but you will be ok...did it help you to find a name for "him"?? it did me...it took us forever which was upsetting me more but once we found it...I was in love...so now im in love with a little girl and boy lol....

Criminy that machine is terrible lol.

I agree with Lillith. Stick with boy. Later in gestation I would imagine a winky-doo could float out of site....especially that particular machine.

My dd's labia was very very clear after 20 weeks. we had a scan every week and it was always captured within seconds of viewing the area.

I agree I would continue on to prepare for a boy since its what u thought was the case anyway. I would be tempted now not to find out until delivery. What a surprise you have in the end if it's a DD liked u hoped...u couldn't beat that feeling!

Wow. I could make out the face before I saw your description, but it took me a second. The resolution is pretty poor.

I'm sorry this happened to you, and I can see how it put you in a tough place. Sort of like either way you're going to have to deal with some feelings of loss again now, and after you probably thought you were past all of that. It just isn't fair sometimes.

Is a private scan an option for you? I can understand if you feel better about just waiting until delivery when you can know with absolute certainty, but if it's going to eat at you, then getting a scan on a higher-quality machine where the sole focus can be on gender ID may give you some peace of mind.

we don't have the money for a private scan, I wish we did since I haven't gotten one nice picture of this baby yet, and with my boys I had beautiful pictures taken by sonographers.

I'm just going to assume it is a boy, and try to put the hope back out of my mind.
