Can we call our son the name we love? DILEMA! Opinions much appreciated! :)

I am due In July/August 2012, we have a feeling we are having a girl and if so we won't have a problem as we have our girl name sorted! But when it comes down to boys names we are struggling. We already have a 3 year old son called Tyler, and the only boy name we both like now is Jake. I really don't like anymore! But... my bf's brother called his baby (now 1) Jacob, which can obviously be shortened to Jake, although no one ever calls him Jake, it's always Jacob. My bf says it doesn't matter and it is a different name and we can call our baby what we want, which I kind of agree with, but I am just worrying what the family will think. We haven't told them this and I have a feeling that Jacob's Mum will have something to say about it (she is never happy unless she has something to rant or moan about and is just in general a bit of a cow lol), I am just hoping we are having a girl to avoid conflict!!! My 3 year old also likes the name Jake because of Baby Jake (CBeebies)!

What does everyone think? Would we be out of order for calling our baby Jake or do you agree with my bf and think it is up to us what we name our child?

If someone seems unhappy, just honestly tell them that it's the only name you could picture naming him. Plus, if the other one goes by Jacob, it doesn't seem like it should be a big deal. JAKE! I love that name! I thought about that name when I was pregnant with DS3, but finally decided on Kody James. Happy Wink

Plus, your son will be Jake not Jacob, there is a difference. Go with what your heart tells you. It is up to you BOTH as parents what to name your child. Jake is a nice name though. I really like it.

Give him the name you want hun! Jake! it's not the same as Jacob. Besides I actually like the names Jake and Jacob as cousins! Someone I know has two boys. one is 2,5 and his name is Jayron. The youngest is 4/5 months and his name is Tyler. So maybe you might like Jayron?

Proud mommy of 2 wonderful little boys! would love to add a girl to our family in the future. probably with girl-diet.

Thank you! Jayron is very similar to my partner's brother's name actually, Jayden! I think I am having a girl anyway in which case she will be Ruby :)

DH's parents bff's have a grandson whose name is the same as our son, Rocco. DHs family is very close with his parents OUT OF STATE Bffs and because of the close relationship, they had an issue with us naming our son Rocco. We did it anyway. As soon as we found out we were having a boy, that just...well, it was his name. We honestly couldn't see naming him anything else and boy did we over discuss names. We spent a full day in the hospital after his birth hesitating over his name but...his name is Rocco and that's all there is to it. I will say that I contacted the other mother via Facebook ( I dont know her) and let her know first and explained that the name is also DHs recently passed uncles name and we love it. She thinks it's way awesome:) Good luck! Also, I think the names are different enough;)

Thank you! Rocco is such a cool name! When my Mum told everyone that she was going to name me Jet, people were horrified! Her Mum hated it but my Mum went with it anyway :) So think we may just do what we want too!

I think you should name him what you want, if she has a problem with it she can deal with it. lol BTW my first son's name is Tyler, and we named our second son Colton. We had a hard time with boy names and agreeing on one. But I like the name Jake it's cute, and I think it is different then Jacob. Especially since they only call him Jacob.
