Hey,
USA98, They wanted to do it slowly since it was my first as it helps cut down on allergic reactions. She said normally it would take 30-45 minutes so we'll see. It was a big bag, sort of like IV fluids, so had to wait for it all to get through the drip. Black!! yuck!!
FourCutiesOneLove, I had gastric bypass 5 years ago and first became anemic about a year after my first son was born. They told me that I used up all my iron stores during my first pregnancy not leaving me with enough for myself or this pregnancy. I had built up my iron before I got pregnant with pills but apparently not high enough to sustain this pregnancy. I tried to take oral iron but wasn't absorbing it after it got low this time. My numbers kept dropping and were low. My OB referred me to a hematologist and he began the IV iron infusions. I am supposed to go for 6-8 weeks. I have a follow up after 4 weeks so I guess we'll do labs then and see where we are at. You might could ask your OB if you could be referred to a hematologist??
