Hello ladies! I am wondering what your Dr's have told you about drinking caffeine and drinking drinks with aspartame in them during pregnancy. I love coke zero. I am soooo tired this pregnancy I feel like i need something to wake me up in the am or early afternoon. I dont like coffee at all, so that's out. Do you think one coke zero a day is bad? Should I avoid it all together?

I think that one per day would be ok.  I know that in previous pregnancies I was told that a cup of coffee was ok (although I didn't drink it then, I do now and usually have just one per day in the morning).  I've also still had the occasional drink of Crystal Light since we still have tons of it in the house (DH has been drinking most of it).  As long as you're not having tons of either aspertame or caffeine, I think you'll be ok.  Of course, it's best to ask your doctor to be sure.

They say up to 250mg of caffine is acceptable. I still drank more in all of my pregnancies, though I backed off what I normally would drink. My dr says she never reccomends having someone stop cold turkey for those who normally consume a lot of it, during pregnancy because you will go through a withdrawal like any addiction.. Plus most people who are heavy caffine drinkers will get awful migranes when you stop and the stress on your body is worse. Now she strongly reccomends to slowly wean down of course which I do, but usually always have a cup of coffee I the morning and MAYBE a soda if I've had a long day, but I actually always switch to Root Beer during my pregnancies because it's caffine free but I give my mind the illusion of a normal soda.

The caffeine shouldn't be a big deal but I'd avoid aspartame.  Even not pregnant I avoid it and make sure my children do as well. Here's a link.  That said I am sure there are countless women who consume it during pregnancy and their babies have no ill effects.  I personally am sensitive to it.

Thanks lovemy4. I did drink coke zero a bit with my last pregnancy but since having him have felt very guilty that I man have harmed him. I'm an emotional mess this pregnancy so far and am worried about him now but I guess it's too late. I'm going to avoid the aspartame this time around.
