Vagovagal Reactions and Pregnancy?

Is there anyone who is pregnant or has been pregnant that has vagovagal reactions? I'm not pregnant right now but am wondering this.

I went in for a pap smear yesterday and it went fine. Uncomfortable but when it was over everything was normal. Within a few seconds, I started to feel really dizzy and nauseas, and told my doctor that I thought I was hyperventiliating. The next thing that I remember was laying down and my doctor was sponging my face with a damp cloth.I was starting to feel better but she had me rest for a few minutes then the nurse came in and helped me sit up. The nurse said I was pretty pale and my skin was clammy, so she had me sit for a few more minutes before letting me get up slowly to get dressed. My doctor wasn't real concerned, she said it can sometimes happen after a pap because the cervix nerves are irritated. I went home and googled it, and I've pretty much come to the conclusion that I have a sensitive cervix and will always experience this during pap smears (I've felt light headed and a bit short of breath after paps before, but not to this extreme).

I'm now horrified of getting pregnant in the future because I'm worried I'll faint if my cervix is touched or if there's pressure on it, and also during labor. I'm going to talk to my doctor more about it, but am curious if anyone else has experienced this and had a normal, healthy pregnancy?

What a terrible experience for you. I have not had that happen but I wouldnt be too concerned about falling pg as a pap is different to checking the cervix while pg. I would think the scrapping of the cervix is what made you feel faint. You dont need internal's while pregnant until you are in active labor to see how far dilated you are. I would just let future Doctors know what happens so they can be a little more gentle.

Thank you for your response fivecrazymonkeys. I agree that it was probably having my cervix scraped that caused the feeling. It's good to know that the only internal exam I would likely get would be when I'm in active labor - I'm assuming at that point everything will be painful enough that having my cervix checked wouldn't do much. ;) I'll definitely let future doctors know about it.

Thanks again, you really reassured me. I was starting to worry that I'd be fainting all time during a pregnancy and was terrified of how that might affect the baby. Confused Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy. Wishing you a happy and healthy 9 months Hearts
