Starting foster to adopt classes!!! Any advice?

I thought you spoke to someone before and they said it was OK?? That is horrible, I am so sorry :( Yes, it does vary by state, our state allows 6 (although like I said you can get a space waiver).

That just sucks.

Baby Boy 26, Baby Girl 23, 17, 15, 10 , 8 , 7 (US Foster, adopting!!), 6 (Adopted from Guatemala) , 3! (Domestic, Co-parenting, came home at 4 days old, she lives with us half the week).

Well she has only been working for them for 4 months so she apologized and said she just found out during training classes today. :-( I'm so upset, I thought for sure this was our path! I'm afraid it is just by state. :(

How about getting a private HS and then registering with adoptuskids? You can take the PRIDE classes with CPS, because all agencies like to see that if adopting an older child/ren, and getting a private HS (which takes waaaaaay faster than state ones) and then you can try to adopt a child already "free" for adoption through the state. (Totally free of cost and they will reimburse your HS!)

Or, you can privately adopt older children. It is not as easy as adopting infants, but it is less money and it sounds like you would have room for siblings...

GREAT NEWS!!! I guess our State has a limit on a max of 10 children per home incl bio & foster. YAY! Bu, each county can make their own restrictions based on that. So I called around today and almost everyone would License us, only that one county has that rule. :-) I am sooo thrilled. The county that we are going through has 17 foster families, good or bad??? We will still start our training next month but she said that they have up to 6months to complete our homestudy. I sure hope it won't take that long. But, regardless I'm just so happy we are not excluded in the option to adopt.

That is awesome news!! In our state it is thee whole state, not by county. you are very lucky to have it to 10! I have not heard of any state that has it that high!!

17 is not alot AT ALL too.

I'm not sure about our state. For sure at least six as I'm licensed for two fosters, but I think it may be seven or eight. 17 foster homes doesn't seem like many, but it depends on the size of the county. Our county has way more than that, but it is larger (although not huge). So glad you found a way! Here you can't do it for another county. Due to funding, you must be licensed through the county you live in. There are a couple private agencies, but they basically only have extreme special needs cases.

Even better news!!! Our county has got me & DH into a sooner training class instead of Nov. We are going tomorrow night for the Orientation followed by the classes starting next week!!! Yay. So far everything has just fallen into place. When the Lord has a plan everything else works them self out like our schedule conflicts. :-) I will keep you gals posted. Also, the lady I have been talking to on the phone for a week just told me today that she will be our homestudy worker. I was so excited cause I have already started a relationship with her. :-)
