It is an important issue to be discussed, and I am glad you would like to shed light on this.I hope Oprah or Dr.Phil will deal with it respectfully and thoughtfully. First, brace yourself for some criticism from the audience or reviewers(if you don't go on TV), though.
Personally, I wouldn't send it to Tyra; I like watching the show itself, but Tyra lacks the understanding and the insightfulness Oprah has. No offense to the Tyra fans, but she sometimes seems to enjoy accusing her guests with an "I am glad I am not you" attitude.

There is going to be criticism. But each person has a different reason for their ED, I mean some its because they just plain don't want a certain gender, some is because they have all of one and desperately wanted the other. Some are because of issues with that gender. There isn't one reason for them to say well these people are all just selfish and didn't get what they want, I think for most its much deeper than that. I mean I know I don't wish to feel like this and I'm walking around in my own personal prison right now!

When I wrote the Dr Phil show I made it clear that GD usually wasnt superficial. Some do just want to experience the "other side", some have deeply rooted issues with one of their own parents, some have been abused and some have even lost children. I would like to see someone like Keeley (not saying specificially her but someone in a similar situation) Only a heartless person wouldnt be able to empathsize with her and understand that type of GD, rather than only showing women saying "Idk, I just really want to buy pink/blue" Even though I, myself, still get great joy from buying blue so I know that part can be more symbolic than anything!

If anything does come of this, I would hope that no one would "out" anyone on here. Like specifically mentioning IG might not be a good idea...

It's a nice idea, in theory, but I just can't see it turning out well...maybe that's the pessimist in me, but I can see the producers putting this awful spin on it, and then there's always the people that edit the show. You know they can make things look a certain way.
Totally agree. The only people that understand GD are the ones that have experienced it. The negative side of it is WAY more exciting and I am almost positive that that's what side they will play up. And they will stock the audience with women who can't conceive at all and they will rip the GDers a new one and get mounds of applause for doing it....or maybe that's the pessimist in ME... I could see it going like that, but then thinking about it... so many people of both sexes work on these shows (in the pre-production/advising sense). At least a few of them have to have suffered or know someone close to them who's suffered with this on some level, so maybe they could encourage it. Plenty of women would still have that holier-than-thou attitude (which it seems like women especially loooove to have about any given topic) but for some women it would get through to them, and for others, it would be "that's what i feel exactly!" Did anyone read the article in Elle magazine about GD recently? They had kind of a condescending tone about it, but at least it gets the feeling and the term out there so that women know what to Google! haha
due march 11 2010... :(

Oh yes, and it has been discussed at length here. Many of the girls are NOT happy about it, with VERY good reason
